Water

Water is the primary resource for all of us – and more versatile than almost any other medium. As groundwater, it makes its way through soil and subsurface; in rivers, streams, and lakes, it comes to the surface; in the sea, it becomes salt water; and evaporation leads to precipitation. Under the influence of climate change and due to its multi-faceted use, it will become increasingly important to protect water as a resource and keep it in this cycle for future generations as best as possible.

Together with our clients, we have been designing a wide variety of water projects for many years. We work on sustainable and long-lasting extraction from wells and springs for drinking water purification or the (ideally passive-biological) treatment of waste and seepage water in, for instance, constructed wetlands. We also apply our expertise to innovative concepts for the in-situ purification of nitrate-contaminated agricultural (ground)water, thermal utilization as an energy source, or to soil-(ground)water impacts at contaminated sites. We also support you with our experience in the broad field of hydraulic modelling and monitoring for geological, geotechnical, flood or contaminated site issues..

Soil / Pedology

Alongside water, soil is a fundamental basis of life for us and future generations. Whether as the typical ground of our landscape, as the foundation for our buildings and infrastructure, or as the basis for agriculture and forestry as well as the entire flora and fauna, it plays a critical role in our lives.

We are committed to sustainable soil protection as part of the assessment of contaminated sites in accordance with BBodSchG and BBodSchV to ensure that the impact of soil contamination on plants/crops and humans is evaluated and respective risks properly assessed. As certified pedological construction supervisors in accordance with BVB guidelines, we also help to minimize the impact on soil during construction and infrastructure development as part of proactive soil protection and to keep the effects as low as possible through sustainable soil and land management.

(Post-) Mining

Our expertise in the rehabilitation of opencast (lignite) mines is closely linked to the history of BASE TECHNOLOGIES GmbH. For more than 20 years, we have been involved as consultants and planners in the rehabilitation and revitalization of the former lignite mining region of Upper Palatinate (today: lake district of Upper Palatinate), which plays a pioneering role in its degree of restoration as a habitat and for tourism in Germany.

In addition to the holistic exploration and assessment of interconnected and interacting objects, the understanding of processes in soil, subsurface, groundwater, and surface water that have been caused by natural interventions in recent decades and are expected to continue well into the future is crucial for the successful processing of such large and complex environmental issues. The focus is therefore also on long-term (geo)chemical and hydraulic monitoring, the results of which are incorporated into large-scale hydraulic and hydrochemical models.

To protect ground- and surface water as well as deeper soil layers, it is sometimes necessary to remediate waste rock piles, historic mining facilities, and backfilled open pits, which we can support from conceptualization and planning through to construction supervision.

Contaminated sites / Landfills / Waste

In the second half of the last century, contaminated materials, rubble, waste, and other environmentally harmful materials were often handled carelessly - mostly due to a lack of knowledge about the potential impacts on the environment. It is only in the last few decades that we have come to understand the need for careful, proactive handling of our protected resources.

We are happy to support you in the assessment of small and large (suspected) contaminated sites throughout the various phases as well as in any resulting reclamation assessments, planning, and implementation.

We also have years of experience in the field of landfill planning, from the conception of the closure to surface modelling including sealing and (permanent or accompanying) water management to the handling of aftercare and monitoring activities.

Nature

Besides soil and water, we also focus on the natural environment living on and in them, i.e. the protection and conservation of animals, plants, and biodiversity.

As certified environmental construction supervisors in accordance with BDLA guidelines, we support you in all environmental impact and compensation measures, in ecological construction supervision, with protection concepts and integrated construction scheduling, in the design and implementation of CEF measures and in nature conservation monitoring.

Energy

When BASE TECHNOLOGIES GmbH was founded, we were already intensively involved in the field of renewable energies and developed initial business strategies for renewable energies together with medium-sized and large energy suppliers, especially the utilization of biogas and biomass, but also photovoltaics and geothermal projects.

Today, we proudly build on this tradition by combining our hydro- and engineering expertise with many years of experience from municipal infrastructure projects with regard to heat utilization, e.g. the geothermal use of groundwater in medium-sized plants. We are happy to carry out feasibility and due diligence studies, for example on municipal heat planning, and work with you to develop sound concepts from the often very theoretical rough plans, e.g. for new (urban) developments or larger commercial consumers.
